July 4, 2013 Thursday: Fourth of July

We celebrate today the many freedoms we have in this country. Many have died protecting our freedoms. As we attend mass, we are most grateful for the freedom to worship. But do we fully understand this freedom that we have? It's not just so that we can assemble in the beautiful churches that we have; but to carry on the mission of Christ. To take live out his message and to be his hands and feet to all whom we encounter. Do we understand that this means to feed the poor, clothe the naked, tend the sick and visit the imprisoned? We often want to look away or throw a few dollars at the problems but our freedom to worship means we must heed the holy word and be His hands and feet.
