Sept. 23, 2020: St. Pio of Pietrecina

Sept. 23, 2020: St. Pio of Pietrecina

Romans 12:4-6: “For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us. . . .”

Our question: “But sometimes it seems as if I have no gifts at all, no ability to help anyone or to do anything of importance.”

Padre Pio’s assurance:

“Do not scatter the seed in the gardens of others, but cultivate your own. Don’t desire to be anything but what you are. Concentrate on perfecting yourself and on carrying the crosses, either small or large, that you will encounter on your journey to heaven. And believe me that this is the most important advice, but also the least understood in spiritual behavior: Each one loves according to his own tastes. Few, however, live according to their duty and the will of the Lord. From this there arises that tearful state whereby many start out on the path to perfection, but few arrive at the summit of the same perfection.”

Our prayer:

Help me, Lord, to appreciate what you have given me: Gifts — no matter how small or few. Family and friends — whether near or far. Material goods — no matter how much or how little. But most of all, please help me to cherish your constant presence and love. Amen.
