Jan. 23, 2013 Wednesday: 2nd Week in Ordinary Time
They watched him closely to see if he would cure him on the sabbath so that they might accuse him.
Each day everything is created by the Son since the Father does all things in the Son
It was decreed for all of us without exception not to do any work and to rest without activity on the sabbath day. So how could our Lord break the sabbath?... Truly, great are God's works: he holds the heavens in his hand, supplies the sun and other stars with light, gives growth to the plants of the earth, maintains humankind in life. Yes, everything exists and holds firm in heaven and on earth by the will of God the Father; everything comes from God and everything exists through the Son. He, indeed, is the head and principle of all things; in him everything was made (Col 1,16-19). And it was from the fulness contained in him that, according to the initiative of his eternal power, he went on to create each thing. Now if Christ acts in everything then it is necessarily through the action of him who acts in Christ. And this is why he said: “My Father is at work each day and I am at work too” (Jn 5,17). For everything that Christ does, the Son of God indwelt by God the Father, is the work of the Father. Thus, each day everything is created through the Son since the Father does all things in the Son. Therefore Christ's action takes place daily and, in my opinion, the laws of nature, the forms of bodies, the development and growth of everything that lives manifests this action.
