Consecration to St. Joseph - Day 9 of Preparation
Noble Offspring of David, Pray for Us
From the Gospel of Matthew and Luke's genealogy, we learn that St. Joseph is of royal lineage of King David; therefore, the blood of King David, King Solomon, and of all the kings of Judah flows in St. Joseph. The Old Testament prophesied that the Messiah would come from the David line. St. Joseph can be rightfully called, 'Son of David.' Jesus also shares the title of "Son of David,"; while Jesus is not the biological son of Joseph, he is the Son of Joseph by law; therefore, Jesus has a legal right to be called a descendant of King David.
When the Archangel appeared to Saint Joseph in a dream, the Angel called him, the "Son of David.' Perhaps, St. Joseph needed to be reminded of his royal lineage and the privilege of being called the father of the Messiah.
St. Alphonsus Liguori wrote, "Noble St. Joseph, I rejoice that God found you worthy of holding this eminent position whereby, established as the father of Jesus, you saw the one whose orders heaven and earth obey subjecting himself to your authority."

O God, who, in your loving providence, chose Blessed Joseph to be the spouse of your most Holy Mother, grant us the favor of having him for our intercessor in heaven whom on earth we venerate as our protector. You, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never has it been known that anyone who asked for your help and sought your intercession was left unaided.
