Consecration to St. Joseph - Day 23 of Preparation
Joseph Lover of Poverty, Pray for Us.
The Holy Family was very poor from the perspective of the world, yet the Holy Family lived on Divine Providence, alone. For example, when the Holy Family was told to escape to Egypt to flee King Harod, the gifts of Wisemen-- gold, frankincense, and myrrh--allowed them to survive their initial adjustment to the life in Egypt.
Our Lord said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 5:3). Those who are detached from the things of the world are able to rely on the Divine Providence. St. Joseph will teach us to how detach from reliance on the world to give us happiness and to rely instead on the Divine Providence. Those who allow their relationship to God to depend on whether they have worldly things are destined for unhappiness. The person who is poor in spirit, on the other hand, is able to proclaim, “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21).

O God, who, in your loving providence, chose Blessed Joseph to be the spouse of your most Holy Mother, grant us the favor of having him for our intercessor in heaven whom on earth we venerate as our protector. You, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never has it been known that anyone who asked for your help and sought your intercession was left unaided. Full of confidence in your power, I hasten to you, and beg your protection. Listen, O foster-father of the Redeemer, to my humble prayer, and in your goodness hear and answer me. Amen.
